Crithmumlepas aycliffensis was named by Gale and Vidovic (2023). Its type specimen is NHMUK PI In 64911, an other (tergum), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Shakespeare Cliff, 70-72 m, Aycliff, which is in a Cenomanian carbonate chalk in the Zig Zag Formation of the United Kingdom.
