Agraulos strenuus was named by Billings (1874). It is the type species of Strenuella.
It was synonymized subjectively with Onchocephalites permingeati by Geyer (2015); it was recombined as Strenuella strenua by Matthew (1887), Termier and Termier (1950), Lemke (2020).
