Permagrion sharovi was named by Felker (2023). Its type specimen is PIN 117/40, a wing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Sheimo-Gora (PIN collection 117), which is in a Roadian lagoonal siliciclastic in the Iva-Gora Beds Formation of the Russian Federation.
