Taxonomy
Permolestes obscurus was named by Felker (2023). Its type specimen is PIN 1700/477, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Chekarda, Sylva River (PIN collection 1700), which is in a Kungurian deltaic siliciclastic in the Koshelevka Formation of the Russian Federation.
