Mesohippus celer
Taxonomy
Anchitherium celer was named by Marsh (1874). Its type specimen is YPM 11302, a maxilla (superior molars, P4-M3, in a portion of the right maxillary), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was synonymized subjectively with Mesohippus bairdi by Osborn and Wortman (1895) and Prothero and Shubin (1989); it was recombined as Miohippus celer by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Mesohippus celer by Marsh (1875), Osborn (1904), Osborn (1918), Stirton (1940), Scott (1941), Clark and Beerbower (1967), Kihm (1987) and MacFadden (1998).
