Taxonomy
Paramys tricus was named by Wilson (1940). Its type locality is Pearson Ranch (Bed CS20), which is in a Duchesnean terrestrial horizon in the Sespe Formation of California.

It was recombined as Microparamys tricus by Wood (1962).
