Microsyops angustidens

Taxonomy

Cynodontomys angustidens was named by Matthew (1915). Its type specimen is A.M.N.H. No. 15073, a mandible (fragmentary left mandible with P3-M3 and fragment of right mandible with P4-M2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Microsyops angustidens type locality, which is in a Wasatchian terrestrial horizon in the Willwood Formation of Wyoming.

It was recombined as Microsyops angustidens by Szalay (1969), Gunnell (1985), Gunnell (1989).

Synonyms

Cynodontomys alfi was named by McKenna (1960). Its type specimen is U.C.M.P. No. 44777, a maxilla (fragmentary right maxilla with M1-3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Timberlake Quarry, which is in a Wasatchian terrestrial horizon in the Wasatch Formation of Colorado.

It was recombined as Microsyops alfi by Szalay (1969); it was synonymized subjectively with Microsyops angustidens by Gunnell (1985), Gunnell (1989), Westgate (1990).
