Taxonomy
Colneptunus was named by Lorenthey (1929) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Neptunus hungaricus.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Portunidae by Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006); and to Portuninae by Karasawa et al. (2008), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2021).
