Goniodontomys disjunctus was named by Wilson (1937) [genotype]. Its type locality is Rome, which is in a Clarendonian terrestrial horizon in Oregon.
It was recombined as Microtoscoptes disjunctus by Hibbard (1959), Repenning (1968), Shotwell (1970), Martin (1975).
