Asaphus duplicata was named by Murchison (1839). Its type specimen is GSM 6847, a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Calymene duplicata by Barrande (1852); it was recombined as Platycalymene duplicata by Shirley (1936).
