Mustela madisonae was named by Douglass (1929) [replacement name for "Mustela minor" Douglass 1903].

It was recombined as Miomustela madisonae by Hall (1930), Storer (1930), Storer (1930) and Tabrum and Nichols (2001).

E. R. Hall 1930size (see measurements on p. 153) about as in Mustela cicognanii cicognanii; premolars not crowded, relatively large; width of talonid of MI, less than three-fourths that of trigonid measured through centers of metaconid and protoconid.
