Taxonomy
Lutra pristina was named by Matthew and Gidley (1904). Its type specimen is AMNH 10811, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Brachypsalis pristinus by Matthew (1924), Henshaw (1942), Green (1956) and Webb (1969); it was recombined as Mionictis pristinus by Baskin (1998).
