Taxonomy
Felis studeri was named by Savage (1960).

It was synonymized subjectively with Felis inexpectata by Kurten (1976); it was recombined as Acinonyx (Miracinonyx) studeri by Adams (1979); it was recombined as Acinonyx studeri by Kurten and Anderson (1980), Dalquest and Schultz (1992); it was synonymized subjectively with Miracinonyx inexpectatus by Van Valkenburgh et al. (1990), Morgan and Seymour (1997); it was recombined as Miracinonyx studeri by Alroy (2002).
