Taxonomy
Monosaulax typicus was named by Shotwell (1968). Its type locality is Red Basin (UO 2495), which is in a Barstovian terrestrial volcaniclastic in the Butte Creek Formation of Oregon.

It was recombined as Eucastor typicus by Xu (1994).
