Taxonomy
Venus ensifera was named by Dall (1909). Its type specimen is USNM 3611, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Chione (Chione) ensifera by Etherington (1931); it was recombined as Chione ensifera by Weaver (1942); it was recombined as Securella ensifera by Parker (1949); it was recombined as Chione (Securella) ensifera by Moore (1963).
