Phacops guilinensis was named by Zhu (1988). Its type specimen is Bed34/709-17 /105837, a cephalon/head, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Phacops (Phacops) granulatus guilinensis by Yuan and Xiang (1998).
