Taxonomy
Palmoxylon enochii was named by Estrada-Ruiz and Cevallos-Ferriz (2009). Its type specimen is IGM-PB 1289, an axis, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Atascoso Ranch, which is in a Campanian/Maastrichtian coarse channel fill sandstone in the Olmos Formation of Mexico.

Cevallos-Ferriz 2009Trunk composed of fundamental tissue and radially arranged vascular bundles; fundamental tissue with tubular cells that are isodiametric in transverse section, thin walled cells, branching and fusing forming well-marked intercellular spaces; vascular bundles reniform shaped in cross section, surrounded by three to four layers of rectangular, elongated, thin wall cells; vascular bundles have a fibrous cap, composed by thick-walled cells, somewith black contents, each vascular bundles with 2 to 3 metaxylem vessels with simple perforation plates and opposite pits, and 3 to 9 protoxylem cells.
