Blountia bristolensis

Taxonomy

Blountia bristolensis was named by Resser (1938). Its type specimen is USNM 94942, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 36v. Reservoir of Mumpower Creek. 3/4 mile northwest of Bristol, which is in a Dresbachian marine limestone in the Nolichucky Formation of Virginia.

Synonyms

Maryvillia bristolensis was named by Resser (1938). Its type specimen is USNM 94963, a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 36v. Reservoir of Mumpower Creek. 3/4 mile northwest of Bristol, which is in a Dresbachian marine limestone in the Nolichucky Formation of Virginia.

It was synonymized subjectively with Blountia bristolensis by Armstrong et al. (2020).

Reference	Diagnosis
M. Armstrong et al. 2020	Frontal area 25% (23–26) of cranidial length, with sharp change in slope between preglabellar field and anterior border, and well-defined anterior border furrow. Seven thoracic segments. Pygidium semielliptical in outline with inflated pleural field, well-defined border furrow, and down-sloping border of even width occupying 10% (8–12) of pygidial length (sag).
