Taxonomy
Eusmilus adelos was named by Barrett (2021) [ZooBank LSID (for nomenclatural act): AE752634-8697-473C-8CD6-CA301A8E56A8]. Its type specimen is USNM 12820, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Hoplophoneus adelos by Barrett and Hopkins (2024).
