Taxonomy
Parictis gilpini was named by Clark and Guensburg (1972). Its type locality is Ahearn, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial horizon in the Chadron Formation of South Dakota.
It was recombined as Subparictis gilpini by Wang and Tedford (1992), Baskin and Tedford (1996).
