Taxonomy
Skopelogale melitodes was named by Baskin (2020). Its type specimen is AMNH F:AM 49101, a mandible (right mandible with p3-m1), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Observation Quarry, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in Nebraska.
