Pogonodon davisi

Taxonomy

Pogonodon davisi was named by Merriam (1906). Its type specimen is UCMP 789, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Hoplophoneus davisi by Matthew (1910); it was recombined as Nimravus davisi by Fremd (1994); it was synonymized subjectively with Pogonodon platycopis by Bryant (1996).

Synonyms

Dinictis eileenae was named by Macdonald (1970). Its type locality is Sharps (SDSM V-544), which is in a Geringian terrestrial horizon in the Sharps Formation of South Dakota.

It was recombined as Pogonodon eileenae by Bryant (1996); it was synonymized subjectively with Pogonodon davisi by Barrett (2016).
Pogonodon serrulidens was named by Eaton (1922).

It was synonymized subjectively with Pogonodon platycopis by Bryant (1996); it was synonymized subjectively with Pogonodon davisi by Barrett (2016).

Reference	Diagnosis
J. C. Merriam 1906	Skull large, sagittal crest very high and thin, brain case small. Dentition 3/, 1/, 3/, 1/. Third upper incisors relatively large. Upper canines large but not greatly compressed laterally. P2 very small, one-rooted. P4 without deuterocone, with incipient protostyle, not exceeding the superior canine in antero-posterior diameter. M1 small, narrow transversely, without distinct internal or protocone lobe.
P. Z. Barrett 2016	Characters of Pogonodon plus: basilar length 110200 mm; mesial-distal length of canine less than P4; ratio of tibia to femur 83% and lower; articulation between the calcaneum and navicular present.
