Acheilus communis was named by Rasetti (1944). Its type specimen is Laval Univ. 1109a, a cephalon/head, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Theodenisia communis by Ludvigsen et al. (1989); it was recombined as Peracheilus communis by Whittington (2007).
