Acheilus gibbus was named by Rasetti (1944). Its type specimen is GSC 73320 (Laval 1113), a cephalon/head, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Theodenisia gibba by Ludvigsen et al. (1989); it was recombined as Peracheilus gibbus by Whittington (2007).
