Sutherlandia was named by Cocke and Bowsher (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l P Leon-l Sepkoski's reference number: 798]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Tabulata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Emmonsiinae by Hill (1981), Niko et al. (2018).
