Taxonomy
Prosthennops brachirostris was named by Shotwell (1956). Its type locality is McKay Reservoir, which is in a Hemphillian pond sandstone in the McKay Formation of Oregon.
It was recombined as Platygonus brachirostris by Wright (1998), Prothero (2021).
