Acrodus dolloi was named by Leriche (1911). It is the type species of Ptychocorax, Hermanodus.
It was recombined as Hermanodus dolloi by Landemaine (1991); it was recombined as Ptychocorax dolloi by Glikman and Istchenko (1980), Cappetta et al. (2014).
