Taxonomy
Protungulatum gorgun was named by Van Valen (1978). Its type specimen is AMNH 35987, a mandible (right mandible with m2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Harbicht Hill, which is in a Puercan floodplain horizon in the Hell Creek Formation of Montana.
