Mastodon euhyphodon was named by Cope (1884).

It was recombined as Tetrabelodon euhyphodon by Cope (1889); it was recombined as Mammut euhypodon by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Blickotherium euhyphodon by Osborn (1942); it was recombined as Rhynchotherium euhyphodon by Webb and Tessman (1968); it was considered a nomen dubium by Tobien (1973) and Shoshani and Tassy (1996).
