Taxonomy
Sciuropterus minimus was named by Lindsay (1972). Its type locality is Carnivore Canyon 6, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in the Barstow Formation of California.
It was recombined as Petauristodon minimus by Engesser (1979), Pratt and Morgan (1989).
