Lacunaucheniinae was named by Wunderlich (2008). Its type is Lacunauchenius.

It was synonymized subjectively with Archaeinae by Wunderlich (2017); it was reranked as the family Lacunaucheniidae by Wunderlich (2025).

It was assigned to Archaeidae by Wunderlich (2015); and to Palpimanoidea by Wunderlich (2025).
