Taxonomy
Stypolophus insectivorus was named by Cope (1871). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Sinopa insectivorus by Scott (1892) and Matthew (1901); it was considered a nomen dubium by Matthew (1909), Gunnell (1998).
