Donrussellia magna was named by Godinot et al. (1987) [Authorship attributed to Godinot]. Its type specimen is PAT 17, a mandible (left dentary preserving p4-m3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Palette, which is in a Ypresian fluvial-lacustrine horizon in France.
