Pintomyia (Pifanomyia) dominicana was named by Andrade Filho et al. (2009). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (Oswaldo Cruz coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
It was recombined as Pintomyia dominicana by Galati et al. (2025).
