Taxonomy
Citellus rexroadensis was named by Hibbard (1941). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rexroad KU Locality 3, which is in a Blancan terrestrial horizon in the Rexroad Formation of Kansas.
It was recombined as Spermophilus rexroadensis by Hemming (1956), Kurten and Anderson (1980).
