Argutastrea was named by Crickmay (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi D Fras-u Sepkoski's reference number: 422,680]. It is not extant. Its type is Argutastrea arguta.
It was assigned to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002); to Disphyllinae by Hill (1981), Brownlaw and Jell (2008); and to Disphyllidae by Coen-Aubert (2017).
