Taxonomy
Stenomylus hitchcocki was named by Loomis (1910). Its type specimen is Amherst College 2059, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Stenomylus Quarry, which is in a Harrisonian terrestrial horizon in the Harrison Formation of Nebraska.
It was recombined as Stenomylus (Stenomylus) hitchcocki by Honey et al. (1998) and Cassiliano (2008).
