Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
A. Valenciano et al. 2026Differs from Proputorius in a higher mandibular corpus, larger and higher p3 compared with p4, higher m1 metaconid, m1 talonid mesiodistally shorter with entocristid forming a V-shaped lingual valley, and a more reduced m2 talonid. Differs from the extant Guloninae Martes and Pekania, as well as the extinct basal Guloninae Ischyrictis and Sthenictis in having a smaller size, absence of p1, p2 turned buccolingually from the tooth row, hook-shape lower premolars, p3–4 unicuspids, higher m1 metaconid and a more bevelled m1 talonid. Differs from Ischyrictis in lower mandibular corpus, and wider m1 talonid. Differs from Mustela in a larger tooth row, higher and larger p2, higher p3, mesiodistally larger p4, presence of m1 metaconid, talonid much broader with entocristid and m2 with two main cuspids. Differs from the Ictonychinae Cernictis, Shansictis, Trigonictis, Sminthosinis, and Lutravus in a smaller size and m1 with more slender talonid. Differs from Cernictis in a taller
p2, and absence of p4 accessory cuspid. Differs from Shansictis and Lutravus in a lower mandibular corpus, and much more slender dentition (especially the m2 of Lutravus) and weaker cingula. Differs from Trigonictis, in more slender p2–4. Differs from Sminthosinis in less bunodont m1 metaconid with smaller m1 hypoconid and less robust cingulids. Differs from Shansictis in absence of p1, and more developed m2. Differs from Vormela and Galictis in a p2 biradiculated, a stronger m1 metaconid (specially than Galictis), and broader m1–2 talonids. Differs from Vormela in a larger tooth row, higher and larger p2–3. Differs from Galictis in a much larger and higher p2, and in the absence of a distal broadening of the p4. Differs from Lutra and Lontra in a less development of the cingula in the lower premolars and molars, higher p2–3, p4 unicuspid, m1 with shallower basin, and a less broad m2.
