Eotrigonias mortivallis was named by Stock (1949). Its type locality is Titus Canyon, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial horizon in the Titus Canyon Formation of California.
It was recombined as Hyracodon mortivallis by Wood (1963); it was recombined as Teletaceras mortivallis by Hanson (1989), Prothero (1998), Prothero (2005).
