Blysmatophyllum was named by Pedder (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: D Give]. It is not extant. Its type is Blysmatophyllum isisense.

It was assigned to Endophyllidae by Hill (1981); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
