Allosaurus amplus
Taxonomy
Camptonotus amplus was named by Marsh (1879). Its type specimen is YPM 1879, a set of limb elements (pes), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quarry 1A, Como Bluff (YPM), which is in a Kimmeridgian/Tithonian channel sandstone in the Morrison Formation of Wyoming.
It was recombined as Camptosaurus amplus by Sauvage (1880), Marsh (1885), Zittel (1890), Winkler (1893), Marsh (1896), Nopcsa (1901), Mansel-Pleydell (1902), Hay (1902), Nopcsa (1902), Mook (1916), Lull (1924), Gilmore (1925), Hay (1930), Janensch (1933), Kuhn (1964), Norman and Weishampel (1990), Chure et al. (1994), Norman (2004), Mateus (2006), Chure et al. (2006), Pereda Suberbiola et al. (2006), Brill and Carpenter (2007), Galton (2007) and Diedrich (2011); it was synonymized subjectively with Camptosaurus dispar by Bartholomai and Molnar (1981); it was considered a nomen dubium by Norman and Barrett (2002); it was recombined as Allosaurus amplus by Galton et al. (2015).
