Cyathophylloides was named by Dybowski (1873) [Sepkoski's age data: O Ashg-l S Ldov]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Stauriidae by Hill (1956), Merriam (1973); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).

C. W. Merriam 1973Massive cerioid rugose corals having 12-14 smooth, simple lamellar major septa which meet axially, where they may be twisted but do not form a discrete axial structure or columella. Tabulae complete, highly variable from straight to arched distally with median sag or sagging slightly overall; widely spaced to closely set. Minor septa short to rather long. No dissepiments.
