Asmodeus was named by Ameghino (1894). It is not extant. Its type is Asmodeus osborni.
It was assigned to Homalodontotheridae by Ameghino (1897) and Seoane and Cerdeño (2014); and to Homalodotheriidae by McKenna and Bell (1997) and Hernández Del Pino et al. (2017).
