Taxonomy
Ophioderma was named by Müller and Troschel (1840). It is extant. It is the type genus of Ophiodermatidae, Ophiodermatoidea.
It was assigned to Ophiureae by Clark (1904); to Ophiodermatinae by Matsumoto (1915); and to Ophiodermatidae by Clark and Twitchell (1915), Spencer and Wright (1966), Hess (1975), Jagt (2000), Storc and Zitt (2008) and O'Hara et al. (2018).
