Taxonomy
Canis apolloniensis was named by Koufos and Kostopoulos (1997) [Type specimen is an anterior part of skull with mandible. Held in the Laboratory of Geology and Palaeontology, University of Thessaloniki, Greece.]. Its type specimen is APL-530. Its type locality is Apollonia, which is in the Pleistocene of horizon the Platanochori Formation Greece.
