Taxonomy
Woodwardia gravida was named by Hickey (1977) [The following spores from the holotype: USNM 43429 (x, y coordinates, -27.8, 13.5), 43430 (-28.7, 7.4), 43431 (-27.2, 7.8), and 43432 (-41.6, 8.2); PU 20093 (-12.1, 12.0) and 20094 (-30.2, 9.2). Paratype: USNM 43428.]. Its type specimen is USNM 43427. Its type locality is North of Lost Bridge (USNM 14121), which is in a Wasatchian channel sandstone/shale in the Golden Valley Formation of North Dakota.
