Taxonomy
Gazella emilii was named by Bouvrain (1998) [Type site is Calta, Turkey. Material held in the collections of the Museum national, d'Histoire naturelle, Paris.]. Its type specimen is ACA-156, an other (frontal with two horncores), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Calta, which is in a Ruscinian floodplain horizon in Turkey.

G. Bouvrain 1998Gazelle de taille moyenne, a chevilles fortement cannelees, divergentes des la base, a face posterieure peu courbee vers l'arriere. Cretes parietales fortes, face occipitale basse et large. Rangee des premolaires assez courte par rapport a celle des molaires (P2-P4/M1-M3x100 entre 63,6 et 70). Hypsodontie intermediaire entre celle des gazelles du Miocene superieur comme G. deperdita (Gervais, 1847) et celle des gazelles du Pliocene superieur comme G. borbonica Deperet, 1884. Metapodes allonges. Il s'agit d'une gazelle de taille moyenne; son poids calcule d'apres la surface de la m1 (legendre 1986) se situe entre 25 et 30kg, ce qui correspond au poids de Gazella rufifrons Gray, 1846 ou de Gazella leptoceros (Cuvier, 1842) par example dans la faune actuelle.
