Taxonomy
Pycnoporidium was named by Yabe and Toyama (1928). It is not extant. Its type is Pycnoporidium lobatum.

It was assigned to Solenoporaceae by Helm et al. (2003), Granier et al. (2008) and Bucek and Kohler (2017).
