Taxonomy
Argyrohyrax acuticostatus was named by Ameghino (1901). Its type specimen is MACN A52-626, maxillary fragment bearing RdP3-4, M1-2, a maxilla, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was considered a nomen vanum by Hitz et al. (2000).
