Eopachyrucos pliciformis was named by Simpson (1967). Its type locality is Mustersan of Patagonia, which is in a Mustersan terrestrial horizon in Argentina. It is the type species of Eopachyrucos.
It was synonymized objectively with Eopachyrucos pliciferus by Hitz et al. (2000).
